London Bridge
Complex track conversion during the ongoing operation
Project description:
- The number of through platforms was increased from six to nine and terminal platforms were reduced from nine to six while in the midst of a complex junction, the Bermondsey tunnel entrance was constructed – and all of this during the ongoing station operation.
Scope of delivery:
- 154 switches and crossings in total were manufactured, delivered, fitted, tested and connected to the signalling system within just over five years. The supply of switches and crossings ranged from simple turnouts to more complex layouts:
- The cast manganese crossings for the switches were sourced from Outreau foundry in France.
- The switch-blade forgings came from Vossloh Cogifer Kihn in Luxembourg.
- Rail machining and assembly along with concrete sleepers was undertaken at Vossloh’s own facility at Scunthorpe, UK.

I was impressed with Vossloh and their entire set-up. Their management team is very customer focused. Vossloh have manufactured high quality S&C and delivered on time throughout the duration of this contract, which has been absolutely critical in delivering the major track remodelling at London Bridge.“
